CARE

Care for your leather or upholstered bed

As we offer a wide variety of different fabrics for our upholstered beds, we strongly recommend using a professional cleaning service if you wish to clean an upholstered bed or remove a stain.

Leather qualities

  • Real leather is a luxurious, natural product. As such, genuine hides will often show the ‘hallmarks of life’ which make each leather bed unique.
  • Over time, your leather bed will mellow and develop a patina which will enhance its natural beauty.
  • Five or more hides are usually required to make a leather bed, so there may be some variation in shades.
  • We use water-based vegetable dyes that penetrate each hide to a differing degree. Therefore, there may be some variations in colour. As a result, colour samples should always be regarded as no more than a guide.
  • We use a range of leather qualities, from soft ‘glove-like’ feels to firmer, more traditional hides. Softer hides may develop wrinkles and creases during the first weeks of use. This is normal and is not a cause for concern.

Caring for your leather bed

  • DO NOT WET THE LEATHER as staining may occur.
  • Do not use polishes, creams, detergents, solvents or stain removers on your leather bed. If in doubt, seek professional advice.
  • Regular cleaning will help maintain your leather furniture. Wipe the leather with a mild, tepid solution of a pure soap (such as Lux flakes or Dreft) applied using a damp cloth with a light circular motion. However, take care as leather can easily be damaged by spillages and soiling.
  • Do not expose your leather bed to direct sunlight for long periods as this may cause fading. Equally, avoid leaving leather furniture too close to radiators or similar heat sources as this may cause dryness and cracking.

Moving the bed

  • The mattress and base are both supported on the bed. So do not move the bed without first removing the mattress and base system.
  • Do not pull or push the bed from the head or foot end only, as this may cause serious damage. Instead, with one person on either side of the bed, hold the frame at the midway point, and carefully lift or slide the bed into position.
